Tobias Wolbring is professor of empirical economic sociology at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg. He studied sociology with minors in economics and psychology at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University Munich, where he earned his Diploma in 2007 and his doctoral degree in 2013. Prior to joining the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in 2017 he was a postdoc at ETH Zürich (2013-2014) and an assistant professor for sociology with a specialization in longitudinal data analysis at the University of Mannheim (2015-2017).

His research interests comprise economic sociology, research in (higher) education, sociology of science, happiness research, and methods of social research, especially causal inference and evaluation. He published and edited several books, numerous book chapters, and various articles in peer reviewed journals, including Economics & Human Biology, European Sociological Review, and Social Science Research.
