Andrea Abele-Brehm has been professor of social psychology at the Friedrich Alexander University since 1984. She studied psychology, sociology and history at the University of Konstanz where she received her PhD in 1976. During her studies she spent some time at the University of Eugene (Oregon, USA) and at the University of Oxford (Great Britain). She was an assistant professor at the University of Bielefeld where she also finished her Habilitation in 1982. From 1982 to 1984 she worked as an associate professor at the University of Bielefeld.

Her research interests are both basic social-psychological (social cognition, mood, person perception) and applied social-psychological (self-regulation). A main research interest is the analysis of career development and the determinants of career success both generally and under a gender-comparative perspective. She has conducted two large longitudinal studies on these issues. She has published widely in social-psychological journals and in Industrial and Organizational Psychology journals. She is also member of several editorial boards and scientific committees. Her research was funded by the German Research Foundation and by the Volkswagen Foundation.
